Star Trek Sequel News of the Day

Star Trek Sequel News of the Day: J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel is scheduled to start shooting January 15th, 2012, with a release date in 2013, according to TrekMovie.com.

Writer/producer Roberto Orcí says a script has been done “for a while” and he’s currently polishing up a third draft with Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.

Many elements of the 2009 film’s sets, including the Enterprise, have been pulled out of storage for the sequel, and construction on some of the new sets is underway. Industrial Light and Magic has also reportedly started on some of the movie’s effects.

TrekMovie also reports that Abrams is considering a location in Hawaii for use as a “jungle planet” and a museum in Los Angeles will stand in as “a famous Star Trek location.”

Plot details haven’t leaked yet, but Benicio Del Toro is apparently being considered to play the sequel’s villain.
