Kickass Kickstarter Project of the Day: David Carr and John Kestner, both graduates of MIT Media Lab, have created a portable device called Twine that connects household objects to the Internet.
Twine uses onboard temperature, moisture and vibration sensors to detect events (like someone knocking at your door, your basement flooding, or your washer finishing a load of laundry) and then it sends you a text, email or tweet to let you know what’s up.
The major selling point for Twine is that it doesn’t require “a nerd degree” to use. It is nerd-friendly, though: you can have Twine send data to your own custom apps via HTTP.
Carr and Kestner are looking for $35,000 in Kickstarter funding for equipment and parts to mass-produce Twine. Backer rewards include Twine units and extra sensors.
