Mysterious Markings in Jerusalem of the Day: A set of mysterious stone markings found in Jerusalem’s City of David has archaeologists stumped.
The markings are 2-inch deep “V” shapes about twenty inches long, and they were found in a room that experts say was last used around 800 B.C. The markings themselves could be even older than that.
The room is located near the city’s well, suggesting it was very important, and it’s connected to another room containing a large stone that could be an altar or a grave marker. Archaeologists aren’t sure if that means the site is a temple, or if it’s another type of building that happens to have a prayer room in it.The team behind the dig is now using Facebook to crowdsource ideas about what the markings could mean. I suppose that strategy could turn up the answer, but it’s just asking for some wild alien conspiracy theories.
